Welcome to my first blog from the United States in quite some time! On June 24th, I landed in Denver, CO and finally gave my family those tearful hugs I imagined for so long. In all honesty, returning back to the US was quite different than I had expected. Standing in the Customs line surrounded by people speaking the same language as me and wearing expensive clothing items hit me like a truck. Coming back from a foreign country is already a weird feeling, but after seeing the spiritual side of Central America and witnessing lives changed by Jesus to return to what I’ve always known blew that out of the water.

I won’t lie- being home has not been easy. Everyone asks me how finally sleeping in my bed or taking a warm shower was, but truth is that was the last thing on my mind. One of the biggest things the Lord taught me on the race was about how to find my contentment in Him and Him alone. A fat cheeseburger or a clean shirt or a warm shower just don’t satisfy like He does. While I spent a portion of the race missing these things, being home all I’ve missed is the field. The constant Christian community. The simplicity and slowness of life. The rice and beans. The friendships with locals. After all, if I’m truly living for eternity, why would I let little highs along the journey trump my great and awesome God who knows exactly what I need and loves me most?

Another question I’ve received a lot since being home is: how was it? While I could answer this in 30 seconds or hours, the short answer is that it was awesome. It was six whole months of my life, so it’s hard to say in one response! There were some  hard seasons and some really sweet ones. I saw the Lord move in a ton of different ways, from personal growth to healings to impacted lives all around. It wasn’t easy letting go of expectations I went in with and trusting Him, but I learned a TON and feel so much better equipped to do life as an adult.

The thankfulness I feel for getting this experience cannot be put onto paper. The Lord has taken me on such a journey since September of 2019 when I committed to go, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Thank you Jesus for the way you’ve captivated my heart and changed my life. Thank you to every person who prayed for, reached out, or donated to my trip. Thank you God for the experience that was the World Race and all the people You used to make it happen.

In case you can’t tell from my journey over the last two years, the Lord has taken me on quite a crazy path. This Fall, I plan to continue my education at Colorado Christian University studying Biblical Studies with a minor in Intercultural Ministry (aka missions). Stay tuned to see what crazy adventure the Lord calls me to next. Places you can do that are this blog, my Instagram (@corynzurcher), Facebook, and messaging (303-500-7440). May we always walk out our great calling from Matthew 28:

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
